How can I see how my child is doing academically in her classroom?
The best first step is to talk to your teacher. If you need just scores or homework completion, check PowerSchool, the district's online system for the teacher to record your child's grades through the year. Grades k-2 will not be as detailed as grades 3-6.
How can I support my child in the classroom and the school?
Parents can get involved by:
1. Asking their child about what they learned after school each night, probing for specifics,
2. Helping their child read 20-30 minutes each night, working with your child to complete homework,
3. Being an active member of PTA, School Community Council, helping with one time events, or volunteering to help the teacher
4. Participating in school-wide events
5. Building a strong relationship with the teachers and staff
What is my student learning?
Salt Lake School District and Beacon Heights follow the Utah State Core Standards. Professional development for teachers and staff is an on-going process to strengthen the skills of all staff. You can read the standards for the grade level you are interested, at: http://www.slcschools.org/departments/curriculum/#.U852_rXnapo or http://www.schools.utah.gov/core/Utah-Core-Standards.aspx
