There are many, many factors that are used to determine if Beacon Heights is a "good" school. We certainly pride ourselves on being a school that performs well on state and national testing, because that attests to the hard work of our students, families, community partners, and school staff to provide a learning environment where all children succeed academically. However, our major goal is to support improvement of students’ academic proficiencies while making sure that all students are enjoying their learning so much that they become independent learners, empathetic, sensitive, positive change makers in our society, To accomplish this, our school makes great effort to give students many, many experiences that are integrated into the day. We try to address the whole child through Children's Dance Theater for grades k-3, University of Utah Children's Theater for grades 4-6, vocal and instrumental music for grades k-6, and visual arts for grades k-6, while maintaining a rigorous study of content area for all grade levels.
We strive for curious, creative students. We have worked hard and continue to shape our instruction to encourage curious and creative thought. We are proud of the hands on philosophy in classroom instruction, technology integration, fieldtrip selection, guest speakers, and especially in the science room where students experience labs that enhance classroom instruction. Parents volunteer each month to help bring science alive for students. This year, we will begin to bring engineering, mathematics, art, and architecture together with our science and social studies. We welcome the help of parents and community members as we move forward with this goal.
